If you love your lashes, you may have noticed a service being offered known as a “lash lift”. This treatment is a relatively new service that just arrived in the beauty industry. Many customers and lash artists may have heard something about it, but don’t know what it is or how it compares to lash extensions. In this blog, we’ll go over some information on lash lifts and how they compare to lash extensions.
What Is a Lash Lift?
A lash lift is mostly known as an alternative to eyelash extensions. They use specially made, non-toxic chemicals on your natural lashes. These chemicals work to break down the lashes’ structural bonds and reform them. It’s comparable to getting a perm on your hair. The treatment allows your lashes to stay curled from the base to the tip, which makes them appear longer and lusher.
A lash lift is a treatment that enhances your natural eyelashes. A Keratin based product is applied to each of your individual lashes. The product makes your lashes appear thicker and fuller.
What is the Difference Between Lash Lifts and Lash Extensions?
Both lash lifts and lash extensions can give your eyelashes a voluminous boost while reducing the amount of time you have to spend in front of the mirror getting ready in the morning.
While a lash lift does add curl to your lashes, it doesn’t actually add length or volume. They just appear to look longer and fuller because of the added curl. With eyelash extensions, you are placing artificial lashes extensions into your natural lashes. Each lash is attached to one of your natural lashes 1-2 mm from the base of the eyelid with special lash glue. This glue isn’t harmful or irritating.
Eyelash extensions can come in various thicknesses, curl shapes, lengths, and colors in order to completely transform your lash look. Lash lifts only allow you to curl your natural lashes and keep them curled for a few weeks before the product begins to break down and your lashes return to their natural form.
Longevity and Maintenance
Lash lifts can last anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks depending on how fast your natural lashes grow, fall out, etc. require you to not touch them or apply mascara for at least a couple of days after the treatment since they require a 24-48 hour setting period. After that, though, you can wear mascara as normal.
Eyelash extensions can last without upkeep for about 3 to 4 weeks, but with regular maintenance, they can last indefinitely. It’s recommended to get a maintenance appointment every 2-4 weeks. This maintenance can make the appearance you get from the service last much longer than lash lifts. With lash extensions, you won’t even need mascara due to the added length, volume, and thickness!
Aesthetic and Customization
A lash lift will only work with your natural lashes. If you love your natural lashes and only want to give them a slight boost, a lash lift would be perfect for you. If you don’t have full lashes or your lashes are short, lash lifts might not give you the results you’re looking for if you’re going for a fuller look.
Eyelash extensions physically add artificial lash extensions to your natural lashes. Your natural lashes are still a part of the look but are just interspersed with the new extensions. This is great for people with sparse or short natural lashes to boost what they’ve got to the next level!
Customization
Customization isn’t something you can do as easily with a lash lift. You can always pair a lash lift with lash tinting services to get a bit more color, but other than that it’s merely accentuating your natural look instead of heightening it.
Eyelash extensions have ample opportunities for customization to your specific wants and needs. You and your lash artist can decide on your extensions’ color, length, thickness, and curl level to create the perfect look for you.
When it comes to the comparisons between lash lifts and lash extensions, it’s ultimately up to you to decide what treatment you want to invest in. But there’s no denying that lash extensions will last longer with some maintenance and add more length to your lashes.
