When you think of eyelash extensions, you are probably thinking of how you’d look batting enviably long eyelashes over gorgeous bright eyes. It’s a beauty secret that is shared amongst women from all walks of life. You don’t have to be a celebrity to enjoy the confidence-boosting effects of eyelash extensions! But, did you know? Eyelash extensions do come with some care instructions! Here are some helpful dos and don’ts from our experts that can help you extend the life of your extensions.
Do – Avoid hot temperatures
In the first day or two, try to avoid going to your favourite hot yoga classes, or taking those relaxing steam showers and baths. The glues binding your eyelash extensions may become reactivated in hotter temperatures, causing the lashes to loosen, clump, or get twisted up. Having a few splashes here and there isn’t the end-all-be-all to your lashes, but it’s best to keep them dry as much as possible in the first 24-48 hours.
Don’t – Put on heavy night creams and conditioners
Moisturizers that are heavy or oily can effectively loosen the bond of the glues in your eyelash extensions. As such, it’s recommended to avoid the area of your eyes when you’re moisturizing your face. When applying your eye creams, use your ring finger to gently pat around the area to avoid contact with your lashes.
Do – Book an appointment for a refill every 2-3 weeks
Getting eyelash extensions is a commitment if you don’t know that already. They last anywhere between two to four weeks, and it is normal for them to fall out naturally with your own eyelashes. If you plan to maintain that fabulous extended lash look, be sure to book your refills regularly. And, if you don’t plan on keeping them long term, it’s recommended that you schedule an appointment to have them professionally removed to avoid the awkward phase of having only a few extensions on your eyes!
Don’t – Apply mascara
Once you start to get eyelash extensions regularly, you can kiss your mascaras goodbye as you won’t be needing them anymore. Mascaras can dry up and can damage the application of your eyelash extensions, so avoid using it at all costs.
Do – Be aware of how often you touch them
Who knew how often we rub our eyes and touch the areas around our eyelashes? It’s a habit that may seem awkward or uncomfortable at first, but remember that if you avoid touching your lash line, your eyelash extensions will last that much longer before your next refill.
